"Initial reports indicate that there were no ISAF service member fatalities," said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Badura, referring to NATO's International Security Assistance Force. He declined to comment on whether there were any wounded.

SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? Yemen's election commission said Friday that 65 percent of registered voters in the country cast their ballot for Vice President Abed Rabo Mansour Hadi in this week's single-candidate presidential election aimed at bringing an end to months of political turmoil.
The vote, part of a U.S.-backed agreement to ease out of office longtime President Ali Abdullah Saleh after almost a year of popular protests, made the Yemeni ruler the fourth leader to be pushed from power in the Arab Spring uprisings that erupted early last year. Saleh is the first of the leaders, however, to leave office in an internationally negotiated exit.
Election Commission chief Mohammed al-Hakimi said Friday that 6.6 million votes out of a potential 10.2 million went to Hadi, who is expected to be sworn in Saturday. More than 99 percent of the 6.6 million votes cast were for Hadi. The remaining 25,000 ballots cast were invalid. The only option on the ballot was to vote "yes" for Hadi.
In Washington, State Department spokesman Mark Toner called the election "a positive step forward" and said "it speaks to the fact that Yemenis are ready to move on to their future."
The unexpectedly large turnout for the vote gives Hadi a strong popular mandate to tackle Yemen's myriad problems, which include a growing threat from al-Qaida militants, widespread poverty and a southern secessionist movement.
After the results from Tuesday's vote were announced, fireworks burst over the capital, Sanaa, in a brief celebration in a city that has been torn by strife.
Hadi will take over after months of uncertainty over whether Saleh would step down in the face of the mass protests that plunged the nation into a political crisis.
But the transitional period promises to be a bumpy one, and Hadi faces a slew of challenges. He has to restructure powerful security forces packed with Saleh loyalists, launch a national dialogue that would include members of the southern secessionist movement, and appease a restless religious minority in the north as well as disparate opposition groups in the heartland.
Many fear Saleh, who has cast a large web of tribal and family relations during his three decades of rule, may still try to pull the strings during the transitional period until a new constitution is written.
Government officials and lawmakers said Hadi is expected be sworn in before parliament on Saturday, earlier than expected. They were speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter with the press.

Sugarland blames fans for state fair injuries
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? Attorneys for country duo Sugarland say the injuries fans suffered in a deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair were "their own fault."
Sugarland's attorneys say some or all of the injuries happened because fans failed to take steps to ensure their own safety before high winds toppled stage rigging onto the crowd awaiting the band's Aug. 13 concert.
Seven people died and 58 were injured.
In a Feb. 16 response to a civil suit filed in November, they also say fair officials and stage rigging builder Mid-America Sound Corp. were responsible for the stage setup. They call the wind that toppled the structure an "act of God."
Sugarland's attorneys are seeking a jury trial.

BANGKOK (AP) ? It began when three men blew up their house accidentally on Valentine's Day in Bangkok. It ended with a gory scene that looked more like Baghdad: A bloodied, would-be bomber with severed legs moaning on a glass-strewn sidewalk after another botched blast.
Last week's explosions in the Thai capital announced the apparent arrival of international terrorists in this Southeast Asian nation, revealing a plot allegedly aimed against Israeli diplomats. But big questions remain about who was behind the plot, and why.
So far, three Iranian citizens have been detained in the case, though police say they haven't revealed anything substantial under interrogation. A Thai court issued an arrest warrant for an additional Iranian suspect this week, and on Tuesday, police were investigating the discovery of stickers plastered on Bangkok utility poles and billboards that may have marked routes for intended victims.
Was it part of a covert tit-for-tat war in which Iranians are hitting back at Israel for allegedly killing Iranian nuclear scientists in Tehran? Were the assailants part of a global terror network? If they were professional assassins, why were they so inept?
"There are many theories," government spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng said shortly after the Bangkok blasts.
And so far, not many answers.
The explosions Feb. 14 came one day after two other incidents in India and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia in which bombers tried to hit Israeli targets with so-called "sticky" bombs that attach magnetically to vehicles.
Whoever was responsible for the cross-continental string of violence, the perception that Tehran is to blame "has undoubtedly exacerbated the already mounting tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program, and international efforts to curtail it," said Will Hartley, head of the Terrorism & Insurgency Center at IHS Jane's in London.
Iran has denied responsibility. Thai investigators, meanwhile, have been left to pick up the pieces and solve the riddle of what happened on Thai soil.
Police say a 31-year-old Iranian named Leila Rohani, who visited Thailand four times over the last year, paved the way for the operation by renting a two-story house in the Thai capital.
Rohani left Thailand on Feb. 5, and the three now-detained Iranians arrived in the predominantly Buddhist country several days later, each traveling on a 60-day tourist visa. The trio met in Pattaya, a beach town on the Gulf of Thailand known for its go-go bars.
They included Mohammad Kharzei, 42; Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, 31; and Saeid Moradi, 28. Immigration police say Kharzei and Sedaghatzadeh, at least, had visited Thailand before, Sedaghatzadeh as recently as December.
In Pattaya, the men checked into separate rooms at two different hotels, and appeared to relax. For a couple of days, they hung out with several prostitutes, said Lt. Col. Noppon Kuldiloke, a senior immigration police investigator in southern Thailand.
A snapshot of the group during this period emerged last week. Published on the front page of the Bangkok Post after the explosions, a cell phone image taken by one of the sex workers showed the Iranians at a Middle Eastern-themed bar or restaurant. Surrounded by hookah water-pipes and a drink-filled table, Kharzei and Sedaghatzadeh each cradled a woman in their arms, while Moradi reclined on a cushion.
The group drank and played pool together, according to the report ? then headed to Bangkok to stay at the house Rohani had arranged for them.
Whatever the men were planning went awry on the afternoon of Feb. 14, when an explosives cache stored at the home ignited by mistake. The ensuing blast blew the roof off an entire front room, simultaneously shredding a first floor edifice and showering the driveway and a grass courtyard with debris.
A closed circuit video camera installed on the street outside showed the Iranians emerge, one by one.
First out was an apparently barefoot Sedaghatzadeh, wearing shorts and sunglasses. Kharzei was next, carrying a large backpack strung over his shoulder.
By the time Moradi finally came out, about five minutes later, a small crowd had begun to gather. But the bystanders recoiled in fear, backing up and turning away as Moradi strode past wearing a jacket and a black backpack. Blood appeared to drip from a wound on the left side of his face, staining a blue baseball cap.
In each hand, he carried what appeared to be portable radios ? possibly homemade "sticky" bombs.
As Moradi tried to flee, a red taxi passed and ? for reasons that remain unclear ? he dropped one of the bombs into the road in front of it, blowing apart the vehicle's front end and wounding the driver and three other Thai bystanders.
Boonlak Phakdi, a cleaning lady living in the area, said the driver got out and shouted to other taxis that Moradi tried to flag down: "Don't take that man in your car!"
Moradi turned onto a main road as police began moving in. One of them, Sgt. Panphum Rakkuson, said the Iranian pulled a rectangular-shaped box out of his backpack and threw it toward the officers.
"We were stunned and couldn't do anything but stand there," Panphun said.
The bomb, though, got caught on something, hit the ground next to Moradi and exploded. The blast instantly shredded both of Moradi's legs below the knee.
Panphum said Moradi reached out for a piece of broken glass from the sidewalk and drew it toward his neck, as if he was trying to kill himself.
Moradi is in police custody at a Bangkok hospital, while Kharzei was arrested at the international airport that night, trying to board a flight to Iran. Sedaghatzadeh was detained the next day in Malaysia, and may eventually be extradited to Thailand.
Thai courts have issued arrest warrants for all three men, as well as Rohani and a fifth Iranian, 57-year-old Norouzi Shayan Ali Akbar.
Akbar, with dark hair and a silver beard, was caught on CCTV footage leaving the Iranians' home the morning of the blast. Deputy national police chief Gen. Pansiri Prapawat said Akbar was en route to the airport, where he took a flight to Tehran.
Officials have given contradictory accounts as to Akbar's role. Police Lt. Gen. Winai Thongsong said he may have been a bomb-making expert who provided training to the other three Iranians. But Monday, Winai backtracked, saying Akbar may only have been a caretaker at the residence.
Investigators say Kharzei ? the only one Thai officials have been able to interrogate so far ? has been tightlipped, admitting through an interpreter that he was in the house but denying any knowledge of explosives.
Over the weekend, authorities seized a blue Honda motorcycle they say was purchased by Rohani in December and used by Sedaghatzadeh. It was found abandoned on a Bangkok street on Saturday.
Police have also found 52 stickers with the word "SEJEAL" on them ? possibly a reference to a passage from the Quran. The stickers were spread at dozens of locations across the capital, possibly to mark routes that could be used by targets. The stickers are identical to others found under the seat of the Iranians' motorcycle as well as an apartment used by Rohani.
The most damning evidence was found in the destroyed house: two more portable radio bombs ? each filled with one or two pounds (kilograms) of plastic explosives, and ? according to IHS Jane's ? ball-bearings.
The bombs had round, coin-like magnets on them ? similar to the "sticky" bombs used against Israeli envoys in a foiled attack in Tbilisi on Feb. 13 and a blast in New Delhi the same day that injured four people, including a diplomat's wife.
Thai officials say the Bangkok plot was aimed at Israeli diplomats, too. Israel has gone further, alleging the evidence clearly points to Iran as being behind all three plots.
However, the "sticky" bombs also are similar to those used in the Jan. 11 assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan in Tehran. That attack, carried out by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle who attached a magnetic bomb to his car, was blamed on Israel.
Iran's ambassador to Thailand, Majid Bizmark, said the Bangkok case remains ambiguous.
Asked about the culprits in an interview published in the local Nation newspaper, Bizmark said: "We don't know who they are. They could be anybody."

Michael Hausfeld, the lead attorney for the retired player group led by former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Carl Eller, insisted his clients aren't trying to make a money grab. Eller said they've estimated between $300 and $500 million in additional benefits they were promised in the early stages of CBA talks and didn't get.
Their contention is they were pushed out of negotiations to streamline the mediation process despite a court order for their inclusion. Those talks last summer led to a new collective bargaining agreement for the owners and players and saved the 2011 season.
"The retirees don't begrudge the present players any income they merit, but at the same time they don't feel it was appropriate for the current players to essentially shortchange the retirees," Hausfeld said.
The NFL's new "Legacy Fund" is an additional $620 million carved into the new CBA to go toward pension increases. Current payments to retirees or beneficiaries were bumped up to at least $600 per month. Players over 55 already receiving pensions were given a benefit credit, an extra $124 per season for those accrued prior to 1975 and an additional $108 per season for those played between 1975 and 1992.
Overall, including the "Legacy Fund," an extra $1 billion was set aside in the new CBA to improve benefits, league spokesman Greg Aiello said.
Hausfeld's firm also filed a concussion-related lawsuit on behalf of more than 100 former players last month against the NFL in Philadelphia federal court, alleging negligence and minimization by the league toward head-injury risk in the game. Commissioner Roger Goodell said during Super Bowl week the NFL "will not quit" helping "retired players, the current players and future players by making the game safer."
There is a palpable bitterness that has existed toward modern players from the retirees that has existed for decades.
Lawyers for the retired players referred in the complaint to a 2010 quote from New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees that described some of the retirees as coming to the current players and asking them to "please make up for my bad judgment." Brees cited divorces, bad business decisions and an unwillingness to work after football as reasons for financial struggles of some of the former players.
Eller acknowledged that perception his group has tried to overcome among the current players.
"A lot of us did make bad decisions. We had our chance. We had our day at the park. I know that I certainly made bad decisions, but the point is that players today are still making bad decisions. And they're making millions of dollars. So what I'm saying is let's work together to minimize those decisions," Eller said.
DeLamielleure was less diplomatic.
"I wish we could do football stuff instead of all this legal-beagle stuff. If we did this stuff when we were playing football, we'd kick their butt and take 'em to the woodshed," he said.
DeLamielleure, who blocked for O.J. Simpson with the Buffalo Bills during the 1970s as a six-time Pro Bowl pick over 13 NFL seasons, said the pension increases still aren't enough. He and his wife of 40 years both work. They had four children, adopted two more and raised three others.
"We built this league for all these guys to have a good profession," he said.
One problem retired players have had is a lack of unification of their agendas. There are several groups that exist to organize and serve former NFL players, including Eller's Retired Players Association.
The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, for which DeLamielleure is an advisory committee member, is another group. It's a nonprofit designed to provide financial assistance and coordinate social services for those ex-players in the direst of needs ? down to shelter, food and health care. Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk is one of the current players who've gotten involved.
Birk said he's "not big into the legal battles" but he said he understands why Eller and his supporters are so fired up about the issues.
"When you feel like the game's kind of turned its back on you, it's tough," Birk said. "I think that's why you see a lot of the dirty laundry being aired. It's an emotionally charged issue."
Birk, a 14-year veteran, said he learned as he got older how critical post-career care can be given the physical toll the sport takes on the body. He said he was startled to hear some of the stories of struggling Hall of Fame players who had trouble paying their basic bills.
"I was like, 'Wow, we're not taking care of these guys?'" Birk said. "You start realizing you're going to be retired someday. I think that's the thing you try to convey to today's players, but it's really difficult to do. When you're playing and you're 23, 24 or 25, you think you're bullet proof, but that's not always the case. As soon as you're retired it doesn't matter how good you are and how many records you set."
